Given

What is given
  1. through the father has a hundred-fold merit;
  2. through the mother, a thousand-fold;
  3. through the sister, ten-thousand fold;
  4. through the brother, incalculable.

Vaitaranicirc

 Towards the end, a cow should be given. He should give a cow to

  1. overcome death,
  2. another to absolve himself of debts,
  3. another for the gaining of liberation.

With special rites, O Bird, should the gift of a cow for Vaitaranicirc; be made. The cows verily carry the man beyond three kinds of hells.

The sins committed in

  1. boyhood,
  2. in youth,
  3. in manhood,
  4. in old age and
  5. in previous births;

The sins committed

  1. in the night,
  2. in the morning,
  3. in the forenoon and
  4. the afternoon,
  5. in the twilight;--of action, speech and thought,

Having given even once a tawny cow, milkgiving, with the calf and other necessary things, to a well-conducted and austere Brahmin, learned in the Vedas,--one is absolved of all these sins. The giver is released by her at the end from the accumulated sins.

The gift of one cow while one is in full vigour of mind, the gift of a hundred cows while suffering from diseases, the gift of a thousand when dying and bereft of mental faculties,And the gift of one hundred thousand cows after death 1, are equal.

80,000 faces!

 Garuda immediately proceeded forward. However a huge fire stopped him. The fire was so hot that Garuda felt the searing pain in his flesh. I need water...he thought plenty of it...

No sooner had Garuda thought it, he grew to a massive size with 80,000 faces! He then flew back to the earth and in each of his mouth carried one river of water. He then returned to heavens with the water in his mouth and poured the water on the fire.

Though the fire was hot, the quantity of water was so high that the water was snuffed out immediately. The wall of fire evaporated as Garuda stepped through the second line of defence.

Ganesha

A lesser known story from the Brahma Vaivarta Purana narrates a different version of Ganesha's birth. On the insistence of Shiva, Parvati fasted for a year (punyaka vrata) to propitiate Vishnu so that he would grant her a son. Vishnu, after the completion of the sacrifice, announced that he would incarnate himself as her son in every kalpa (eon). Accordingly, Ganesha was born to Parvati as a charming infant. This event was celebrated with great enthusiasm and all the gods were invited to take a look at the baby. However Shani (Saturn), the son of Surya, hesitated to look at the baby since Shani was cursed with the gaze of destruction. However Parvati insisted that he look at the baby, which Shani did, and immediately the infant's head fell off. Seeing Shiva and Parvati grief-stricken, Vishnu mounted on Garuda, his divine eagle, and rushed to the banks of the Pushpa-Bhadra river, from where he brought back the head of a young elephant. The head of the elephant was joined with the headless body of Parvati's son, thus reviving him. The infant was named Ganesha and all the Gods blessed Ganesha and wished Him power and prosperity.
